Just picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago from ebay.
They are a blast! Frequency accuracy can be off but will get you in the ball park. Its great for looking around the bands and for basic monitoring. I have been playing with mine using it to decode digital comms. Works pretty well!

I highly reccomend them! Great toy! I have discovered a ton of stuff out on the bands that I did not know was there!

Antennas / Laird "Phantom" Antennas
« on: June 15, 2013, 02:31:25 PM »
I am running a 440 and a 900 phantom antenna. Let me just say these things rock! Hard to beat for local comms. When i want to reach out to a distant repeater they cant beat my larger higher gain antenna. When I am just driving around town and using local machines (within 20 or so miles. granted I have accessed repeaters 40 miles away and being readable with these antennas) they cant be beat!

I just switched from a 1/4 wave 900mhz antenna to the phantom and it made a big improvement. Im def sold on them!

Just wanted to introduce myself to the new forum! My name is Jon and I live in the Texas Panhandle. My primary interests are in the digital voice modes (such as MotoTRBO, P25, D-Star). Currently I am just a Tech but would like to upgrade to general. I am a computer tech for a major US company. If I can be any help in that department im glad to help! Looking forward to seeing this forum grow!
